MISSION: A leading global manufacturer of infection control and single-use disposable products for the Healthcare Industry. WHO I AM: My name is Vonda Manley, and I am a dental hygienist who was concerned about improving the comfort of dental x-rays for my patients. Their discomfort caused me to feel anxious so I also wanted to decrease my own level of stress, making the procedure better for us all. In order to address this I invented the very first product designed to increase patient comfort during the radiographic procedure, which is known as Edge-Ease®. This caused me to start my business back in 1986. Since my maiden name was Strong I named the company Strong Dental Products. My parents remain proud about that to this day. As dental x-ray technology advanced into digital imaging, I realized there was a need for additional products which would enhance patient comfort and ensure proper infection control for x-ray sensors. This led me to develop four more products, Sensor Slippers®, Wrap-Ease®, BiteWing-Ease® and Slip-Ease™. Each product has a specific purpose for use in either gripping style or traditional film holders by converting them to sensor holders. I wanted clinicians to be able to use techniques and holders with which they were already familiar, thereby simplifying the process. As business grew, so did the demands on my time, and I eventually realized that it was time to make some changes. My options were to either expand my working space and hire more employees, or sell the company to someone with a complimentary product line who could take the products to the next level globally. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT: About a year ago, I ran into some long-time friends and colleagues at Crosstex International and it occurred to all of us that our companies would be the perfect fit. We shared the same mission regarding our priority to make dentistry a more comfortable and safe environment. Crosstex is a progressive company manufacturing products that are focused on our interests and needs as hygienists. Additionally they have a popular line called Patient’s Choice. When we as clinicians know we are doing everything we can to fully protect our patients and ourselves, and provide the best care possible, we can practice with complete peace of mind.
