In the April issue of Modern Hygienist, we took you through five different parts of your home—the living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and laundry room—and offered four simple steps to make each place a little more eco-friendly. With such an emphasis on paper, we couldn’t leave out the home office, so here are some ways you and your family can transform that room:
Always recycle your computer paper. Besides putting it a recycling bin, you can recycle paper at home by keeping it as scrap paper for notes or grocery lists.
Buy post-consumer waste recycled (PCW) and processed chlorine free (PCF) computer paper. While it usually is a little bit more expensive to buy this type of paper, purchasing it can help to save literally thousands of trees.
Print off less from you computer or, if you do have to print, set your printer to print double sided. Read emails, articles, and magazines on your computer rather than printing hardcopies.
Use refillable pencils and pens to keep from throwing away countless writing implements. Make sure your kids use soybean crayons, which are safe and biodegradable, rather than those made from toxic paraffin wax.
